During a recent Council of Governors meeting, a proposal was discussed regarding a potential change to how District 36 conventions may be held beginning in 2027. Before moving forward with any planning, we would like to hear from Lions across Oregon to gauge interest and gather feedback.
Proposed Concept
The proposal suggests holding one statewide District 36 gathering over a long weekend (Thursday through Saturday) in a central Oregon location. Within this shared event:
Each District would have dedicated time to conduct its own convention business, including elections of officers.
The event would also feature workshops, educational sessions, and keynote speakers.
Members would have opportunities for open discussion about the future of Lionism in Oregon, including ways to expand our impact in the coming years.
Clubs could showcase service projects and initiatives, highlighting the diversity of Lions’ work across the state.
Goals of the Proposal
This concept has been suggested with several objectives in mind:
Reduce costs for members and Districts
Encourage broader participation and more diverse perspectives
Attract stronger speakers and presenters to increase attendance
Reverse the post-COVID decline in convention participation
Meet in a more central location accessible to Lions from all parts of Oregon
Provide opportunities for members—both new and long-standing—to connect and learn about service projects across District 36
At this stage, no decisions have been made. The Council of Governors would greatly value input from members before considering next steps.
