Lions Clubs of Multiple District 36, Oregon and Northern California

We Serve

Lions of Oregon & Northern California are a part of an international network of 1.4 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Lions are best known for working to end preventable blindness, the giving of eyeglasses and hearing aids for the needy and local service projects.

Mission Statement of Lions Clubs International:

"To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation."

It’s A New World Out There. Rev Your Engine.

June. It’s June already (well it will be upon issue). I’ve heard that time accelerates as we gain in age. So, the lesson is – we just have to speed up to keep up. You know, shift gears and put your foot on the accelerator. I do believe that for Lions, it means stepping out of your comfort zone and engaging with change. Hopefully, many of you will have participated in the MD36 Convention – “Old Ways don’t open New Doors”.  It still remains “Your Club Your Way”, and for some clubs, proceeding with what has always worked in the past appears to continue to enable them to support community needs. At least the needs that they have historically addressed with success. But a community assessment will likely reveal changes in the most critical issues that are being overlooked. And new members will always be need as the long-time members relocate, encounter physical difficulties, etc. None of us are immortal.

Lions of Oregon website – that’s where you get all our MD36 information – like this monthly Lions magazine, district information, training and conventions. Every Lion member should be engaged with this and share it with family and friends. Email them a link to www.MD36LionsClubs.org. Your club website. Facebook posts and reels; get it out there! For younger member recruitment you gotta try Instagram, maybe even that TikTok thing.

Lions International and Lions USA have provided new tools for community assessment and engagement. It bears repeating: Lions Portal is now essential, that is where you report your club officers, and service project (planned and complete), receive and pay LCI Dues, find your district leaders, and so much more.  There is support and training in many venues. YouTube Videos, Lions International website, your local and district leaders. Just ask – you can get started and then find training; new members, club officers and potential officers really should explore this. LionsVirtual.org – it can help with SWOT analysis, community needs and resources, project planning, media releases, sample letters, on and on. LionsUSA.org takes you all around the country for new ideas, old solutions.

Yeah, it’s a new world out there. Rev your engine.

Hey, it has been a great ride as DG. And I plan to keep on keepin’ on as I still have a LOT to learn.  DG Nancy

Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?
