Lions Clubs of Multiple District 36, Oregon and Northern California

We Serve

Lions of Oregon & Northern California are a part of an international network of 1.4 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Lions are best known for working to end preventable blindness, the giving of eyeglasses and hearing aids for the needy and local service projects.

Mission Statement of Lions Clubs International:

"To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation."

November Roundup

I hoped that everyone enjoyed their week of service for Mental Health and Well-being. In Pendleton we looked around at what we were already doing and the mental health aspects of our activities.  October is Domestic Violence Month. We make a collection of what they request, add cash to it and present it at their facility. We generally have a speaker from DVS.  This year the DVS representative talked about the mental health aspects of what they do. Do you have a food drive or help with a school lunch program (that may be the only reason   the child gets anything to eat over the weekend.) Do you help with a summer reading program? Almost everything we Lions do has a positive effect on someone’s mental health and well-being. Get creative!

What I did not realize is that there is a video contest that goes along with each week of service. The deadline for the mental health and well-being week is October 24, hunger is January 23 and environmental is May 8. Maybe some of your Leos or younger members would like to take this project on as a challenge. See LCI for details A few years ago the Pendleton club put together a video contest for junior high kids. We did scoring sheets to look at several aspects of a presentation. If someone would like a copy, just ask. An Air Force retiree and I put it together and his spouse did all the proofing.

A bit about service reporting: When I checked in August our percentage of clubs reporting service was at 34%. This month it was up to 40%. That may be related to the club that turned their first service report in 1 ½ years. Let’s give a Big Lions ROAR to the Enterprise/Joseph Club, who reported their first service in over 1.5 years.

A brief word to clubs about putting people, Lions and clubs up for awards. You should have just received a packet containing District Awards and contests. Please look at that packet carefully and consider what people, businesses, Lions, or newsletters that you are most proud of and would like to enter them for an award. The winners will be announced at our 36G convention on April 11, 2026.

Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?
