Lions Clubs of Multiple District 36, Oregon and Northern California

We Serve

Lions of Oregon & Northern California are a part of an international network of 1.4 million men and women in 200 countries and geographic areas who work together to answer the needs that challenge communities around the world. Lions are best known for working to end preventable blindness, the giving of eyeglasses and hearing aids for the needy and local service projects.

Mission Statement of Lions Clubs International:

"To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation."

Weeks of Service

Lions International is going to have three weeks of service in hopes of getting Lions Clubs all over the world to be involved in the weeks of service at the same time. The first week is October 4 through 12, 2025. The goal of ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for people of all ages is a goal that we share with the United Nations. Statistics from the World Health organization include: 700,000 people die every year from suicide, people who are exposed to adverse circumstances like poverty, violence, disability and inequality are at a much higher risk of developing a mental illness and depression is the leading cause of disability globally, affectively more than 300 people world-wide. We also are aware that Veterans in our country who have been exposed to violence and often have PTSD are not receiving adequate care when they return home.

There are many things that we can do to help the mental health and well being of others. The first and probably the most important is to accept them for who they are and not look down on them. Other thing we can do are promote awareness and advocate for tools and treatment to help these people. Lions has many resources to help with this: Lions Advocacy Tool Kit, work with the suicide help line or just help a local shelter or group home with supplies and or money. Since October is Domestic Violence Month the Pendleton Lions Club has donated supplies and money to our local Domestic Violence shelter. Lions Quest or any activity that works with kids homelessness or having food on a regular basis will help prevent problems for our youth. Look around and see what you are already doing to support mental health but did not recognize it. And see what your club may want to add. Our club works with Altrusa to provide weekend meals for kids that get free lunches during the week. Almost every Service Club in Pendleton help to work on this project with Altrusa.

Keep up the good work in providing good service to your community.

Let’s give everyone a good Lions ROAR for their good work!

Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?
