36-G convention

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I welcome in another new year.  We are planning a spectacular 36-G convention that you will not want to miss.  Our focus this convention is: “Building a Stronger Lion’s Club, one member at a time.”

We will begin our convention with the housekeeping necessary to meet our obligations to Lions International.  Once that concludes, we will gather at the historic Granada Theater in downtown The Dalles.  Judy Garland (Gumm) once performed with her sisters on stage at the Granada.  Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong and many celebrates walked onto the stage.  The theater has been brought back to life by owners Chuck and Debra Gomez with much love and elbow grease.  Plans include a walking tour (we will also have Link transportation) to selected locations.  Klindt's bookseller, Civic Auditorium, Shannon’s Ice Cream Parlor, Carnegy Art Center, Historic city hall with fire department museum and yes ladies…shopping along the way.  Dinner will be served at 6:00 followed by our guest speaker, Melissa Washburn from Carlsbad, New Mexico.  Her inspirational speech will be all about building new clubs and growing membership.  She will fit right in to our convention.

Saturday will be focused on learning new ways to increase the fun factor for regular lion meetings.  We will also build strategies to grow our clubs.  Most of you know that I am a retired educator, and the flavor of this convention will be on learning.  I am going to work all of you before we head to the National Neon Sign Museum where you will be guided through a hundred years of neon sign history.  If you choose to stay, a sock hop will happen in the turn of the century city that is built on the second floor of the museum.    Expect to return to your home filled with new strategies to try, a new outlook on Lionism, and you will have a ton of fun in the process.  If you think this is a convention that you might consider joining.  All Lions are invited.  Call Tim McGlothlin for details (541) 980-4051

Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?
