OCTOBER RIPPLES

Sometimes RIPPLES lead to changes.  Here’s a big one for everyone:  My correct e-mail address is:  xcntrcbarb@gmail.com.  The prior address was with my business which I closed almost 3 years ago.  By leaving it active I was getting e-mails that I had to respond to that were no longer apart of my daily life.  So, we’ve cancelled the domain, eliminated the line and saved some money.  I thought I’d done a good job of making the change known, evidently, I didn’t.  So, PLEASE CHANGE my email in the new directory.

So, what changes are you making this Fall?  Are they ripples, or waves?  Sometimes, changes are welcome…What if school started at a time that allowed the kids to be dropped off on your way to work, that was a BIG issue when our girls were in school.  At first the school accommodated the ‘early-birds’ graciously, but the numbers grew and by the time our girls were in Jr High, which started just after 8 am, the grade schools also adopted the early start. Individuals and institutions have to adapt to changes in the community, where they‘re located.  What changes could our Lions Club’s make to be more accommodating?  Would a different day, or a different time make the club more available to new people?  Would having a ‘kids club’ make the club more affordable to young parents?  I don’t think that there is any rule that the club has to meet early, or at 7pm in the evening.  What if young parents would come if it was changed to 7:30 or even 8pm.  Let them get the kids settled into bed, homework or whatever.  How often do we have a speaker?  Are they always about IRA’S and retirement planning, or do we have speakers talk about the changes in the schools, changes in the laws about curfew times, and the location of a new Hospital?  Invite speakers that appeal to a broad age group and ALWAYS invite visitors.

The leaves are changing, we welcome the cooler temperatures, let’s approach other changes the same way.

“Will you not help me hasten the day when there shall be no preventable blindness; no little deaf, blind child untaught; no blind man or woman unaided? I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?”
