District 36G October Monthly
My wife and I returned yesterday from the annual Lions Leadership Forum held this year in Memphis, Tennessee. It provided 3 days of guidance and information from Lions all over the US and Canada. It was a time to connect and exchange information with other Lions including over 20 Oregon Lions. This was a fun-filled and fulfilling event.
One of the many lessons I have learned is that next year’s Lion leaders need to step up and be designated as soon as possible. When I returned from the International Convention, there were 30 committee chairs to be designated, ranging from Awards, Honors, and Contests to Sight Preservation, Awareness, and Action. In addition, 5 Zone Chairs and 5 Global Action Team members needed to be determined. These are key District leadership positions, helping set the goals and direction and successes for our District for the upcoming year. I would encourage any Lion to investigate and decide if you are interested in leadership-positions in your Club, or various positions for your District. You can contact your Club officers, your Zone Chairperson, or myself who can provide information and even job descriptions. I intend to visit many District Clubs during the year. This can also be an opportunity for you to ask about or express your interest in positions. I can be contacted via email at liondgdave@gmail.com.
District 36G held our first quarterly cabinet meeting in Hermiston on August 8th. Cabinet meetings are rotated to each Zone, the next meeting to be held in Crooked River Ranch on November 7th. My wife and I attended the first quarterly Council of Governors meeting in Bandon the following weekend. It was a long trek, but an opportunity to escape the smoke filled skies and heat of Eastern Oregon for the pleasant temperatures and clear skies of the Oregon coast. I met many of Oregon Lions I had worked with via Zoom or email. We discussed and established direction for the upcoming year. I continue to be impressed and humbled with the dedication and efforts of Lions everywhere – always Rooted in Service.
